Where to buy carpet in Turkey
Hand made, fine quality carpets and kilims has been produced in Hereke. This little town is very close to Istanbul. Istanbul was the capital of Ottomon Empire and in order to supply carpets and rugs to Ottoman Palaces, Hereke has been chosen as a carpet production due to close location to Istanbul.

Hand knotted carpets and rugs can be found in majority of Turkish cities. Antalya, Marmaris, Bodrum and Kusadasi are the most well known cities by the tourists and you can also easily find carpet, kilim and rug shops in these cities. Some of the travel agencies also offer daily excursions to carpet and rug shops. There is no harm in joining one of these excursions but we strongly advice to view more than one shop and always bargain with the carpet, kilim rug sellers.

Turkish silk carpets and rugs are much more expensive compare to cotton or wool carpets. Before making such an investment, it would be wise to visit more than one shop and to seek professional help.

One of the common tricks of the carpet, rug sellers is throwing tens of carpets and rugs in front of you. This can generally pressure you to buy the carpet or rug however you should never forget that this is an art item and in a way an investment. So decide with your heart as well as with your wallet.
